The term "latte" translates directly to "milk" in Italian, highlighting its character as a milk-based coffee drink. Traditionally, it began as espresso with just a small amount of milk to soften and sweeten the intense flavor.
Today, the latte is the go-to choice for milk lovers. It consists of a double espresso with micro-textured milk, served in a larger cup than a flat white — usually between 320 and 350 milliliters. Smooth, creamy, and mellow, it’s a true comfort coffee.
Preparation Steps:
-
1
Begin with a double shot of espresso, prepared with about 22 grams of ground coffee.
-
2
Steam the milk to create micro-foam with a velvety texture. For a latte, aim for around 320 milliliters of milk in total.
-
3
Pour the double espresso into a 320-milliliter glass or ceramic cup. Slowly add the steamed milk, allowing about 1 cm of foam to settle on top.
-
4
Swirl the milk jug to integrate foam and milk before pouring. A well-mixed latte ensures a balanced flavor — smooth, rich, and consistent.
