Next up, we have the latte. The term "latte" translates directly to "milk" in Italian, indicating a milk-based coffee drink. Traditionally, it started as an espresso with a small amount of milk to soften and sweeten the intense coffee flavor.
Nowadays, the latte is often the go-to choice for milk lovers. It consists of a double espresso with micro-textured milk, served in a larger volume cup compared to a flat white. Typically, it’s served in a cup ranging from 320 to 350 milliliters.
Preparation Steps:
1. Begin with a double shot of espresso, which involves 22 grams of ground coffee.
2. Steam the milk to create micro-foam. For a latte, the milk texture is crucial, aiming for a smooth, velvety consistency. The total volume of milk should be around 320 milliliters.
3. Pour the double shot of espresso into a 320-milliliter glass cup. Slowly add the steamed milk, allowing a small layer of foam, about one centimeter thick, to form on top.
4. While some prefer the visual layers of milk, foam, and espresso, this can often affect the overall taste. A well-mixed latte ensures a balanced flavor. Swirl the milk jug to integrate the foam and milk, and pour gently over the espresso.
By maintaining this method, you ensure a consistent and delicious latte.
